Meru: Quick Setup Guide


  1. Login to Meru dashboard from Web interface.
  2. GoTo Configuration tab and start configuring Security Configuration Table 

Adding Security Configuration :

  • Enter Profile name 
  • Enable Clear in L2 Modes Allowed
  • Choose No RADIUS for the next two options
  • Static WEP key Index is set to 1 and Re-Key period is set to 0 
  • Set BKSA caching period to 43200
  • Select WebAuth and external for next two options
  • Select On for 802.1X Network Initiation

Adding ESS Profile:

  • Navigate to ESS Profile tab and enter the following parameters: 
  • ESS Profile : Wavespot_AP
  • Enable/Disable : Enable
  • SSID: Wavespot Free_Wifi
  • Security Profile: Wavespot_Profile
  • Primary Radius Accounting Server: Radius_acc
  • Secondary Radius Accounting Server: No Radius
  • Accounting interim interval: 3600
  • Beacon Interval: 100
  • SSID Broadcast: On
  • New APs join ESS: On
  • Allow Multicast Flag: Off
  • Isolate Wireless to Wireless traffic: Off 

Creating and Configuring RADIUS Authentication Server :

  • Radius Profile Name: Radius_auth
  • Description: Auth
  • Radius IP: 54.234.138.159
  • Radius Secret: Provided separately
  • Radius Port: 1812
  • Mac Address Delimiter: Colon
  • Password Type: Shared Key
  • Called station Id type: MacAddress 

Creating and Configuring RADIUS Accounting Server:

  • Radius Profile Name: Radius_acc
  • Description: Accounting
  • Radius IP: 54.234.138.159
  • Radius Secret: Provided separately
  • Radius Port: 1986
  • Mac Address Delimiter: Colon 
  • Password Type: Shared Key
  • Called station Id type: MacAddress 

Adding Captive Portal:

  • Server Port: 10101
  • Authentication Type: radius
  • Primary Profile: Radius_auth
  • Secondary Profile: No_Radius
  • Primary Profile: Radius_acc
  • Secondary Profile: No_Radius
  • Accounting Interim Interval: 600
  • Captive Portal Session Timeout: 0
  • Captive Portal Activity Timeout: 0
  • Protocol: https
  • Portal URL:
  • Captive Portal External URL: apps.wavespot.net/wavespot
  • Captive Portal External IP: 192.168.0.97
  • L3 User session timeout: 1 

Adding DHCP:

  • Internal DHCP server configuration 
  • DHCP server Pool name: Wavespot_dhcp 
  • State: enable 
  • Lease time: 3600 
  • IP Pool start: 192.168.0.180 
  • IP Pool end: 192.168.0.185 
  • Primary DNS server: 8.8.8.8 
  • Secondary DNS server: 8.8.4.4 

Adding QoS setting: 
Add firewall rules to both inbound and outbound traffic 

Firewall rules for inbound traffic 
  • Destination IP: 0.0.0.0 
  • Destination netmask: 0.0.0.0 
  • Destination Port: 0 
  • Source IP: 50.17.246.4 
  • Source Netmask: 0.0.0.0 
  • Source port: 80 
  • Network Protocol: 0
